January 2005
The new year is off and roaring!
Kerry and I started 2005 in the Swiss Alps where we traveled for face-to-face meetings with the Royal Rangers European Regional Coordinator, and a few other leaders. After dashing home I was off to Chile, South America to help the Royal Rangers leaders there conduct a National Academy.
These trips have made it very clear, yet again, that leaders perform to their level of training.
It is always great to meet men like Horacio, from Argentina who attended the event in Chile. He is a retired police officer who works with some of the most forgotten kids in Buenos Aires. The Argentine National Director told me that Horacio has no fear of walking into neighborhoods and taking drugs from the hands of teens and pre-teens, destroying them, and marching the kids to the Royal Rangers meeting and introducing them to Christ.
I might not have believed, except while at the event in Chile we were in close proximity to a non-Royal Rangers group made up of poorly supervised kids. At one point, the adults must have forgotten the schedule and left the kids unattended. In no time they were improvising a “new and dynamic” program—that included defacing some property.
Horacio, from our group, quickly jumped into action. Before we knew it, he had formed the fifty-or-so kids into a military-like formation and was teaching them some chants they had never heard. “Who loves Jesus?” “I love Jesus!” they responded. “Who saves?” “Jesus!” “Who heals?” “Jesus!”,…
It was a real disappointment when the red-faced-leaders showed up! I have no doubt that Horacio would have been leading them in the sinner prayer.
It is a joy to equip men to reach, teach, and keep boys for Jesus Christ all around the world! Eternity will reveal that our partnership together has determined the destiny of nations—that is what happens when men evangelize and train today’s boys to become tomorrow’s godly men.
PS— Many thanks to each of you who sent us kind Christmas cards, and even some gifts. We can’t express our appreciation enough for including us in your thoughts and prayers during the holiday season! Thank you, thank you, thank you,…
